Why "The Alto Shatto" (chateau high on the mountain)?
The story behind “The Alto Shatto”…… Alto Shatto was what my grandparents called their home in the mountain. Alto was a combination of their names – Alice and Otto and Shatto was their play on chateau. It was here that I would watch my grandmother at her sewing machine or knitting by the fireplace and enjoyed the smell of sawdust while I watched my grandfather working in his woodshop. Even after he went blind, he spent all day creating by feel and building housing for all of the birds in the forest. I decided to name my store after these memories and honor the joy and pride they instilled in me by creating quality projects with their hands. While I started creating for my boys when they were babies, the store is stocked with a variety of items I have been asked to create by friends and family over the year.
